AGC Glass Europe:

Clearsight anti-reflective glass for One Vanderbilt in New York

Float glass, which is commonly used in shop windows, reflects around eight percent of visible light to the outside. Objects or exhibits behind the glass can only be made clearly visible in daylight with costly professional lighting.

With Clearsight anti-reflective glass, a special coating reduces reflection to less than one percent, with daylight transmission of around 99 percent. The completely color-neutral glazing thus becomes virtually “invisible” and significantly reduces the need for artificial lighting.

Clearsight is also used as laminated glass in exclusive insulating glazing and balustrades. Its near invisibility creates spectacular effects, especially in project architecture.

On the “Summit One Vanderbilt” observation deck, which extends from the 91st to the 93rd floor, Clearsight glazing gives guests an unadulterated, reflection-free view of the city skyline.

Fully glazed to the 105th floor

This is also the starting point for “Ascent,” which, according to One Vanderbilt, is the world's largest exterior glass elevator. The capsule, glazed on all sides—including the floor—with virtually invisible Clearsight, climbs another 12 floors up the exterior façade to a height of 369 meters above Manhattan.

Clearsight is environmentally certified according to “Cradle to Cradle Bronze” and can also be combined with the iplus thermal insulation coating as monolithic or laminated glass. The coating, applied using the magnetron sputtering process, is chemically and mechanically resistant, class A, robust and scratch-resistant, making it ideal for exterior and interior applications.
