In late 2020, the Adhesive and Sealant Council presented its Innovation Award for the fourth time. The award is intended to promote innovation in the adhesives and sealants industry and in science. An independent jury examines the solutions submitted for their innovative strength and the impact of the technology on the state of the art. H.B. Fuller | Kömmerling convinced the jurors with their thermoplastic spacer Ködispace 4SG for insulating glass units and was awarded second place.
What is behind Ködispace 4SG?
The Ködispace 4SG spacer system is a reactive thermoplastic spacer for the edge seal of insulating glass units. As a next generation warm edge system, Ködispace 4SG combines spacer, desiccant and primary sealant in one product. Since Ködispace 4SG chemically bonds to both the glass surface and a silicone secondary sealant, the entire edge seal "melts" into a highly durable unit. This results in permanently tight and extremely durable insulating glass.
What are the advantages of this spacer?
Another major advantage is the flexibility of Ködispace 4SG: It can absorb deformations without creating significant stresses in the edge seal. This predestines the warm edge system especially for mechanically more demanding applications such as the cold bending of insulating glass units.

In these applications, the system has advantages over conventional, rigid spacers. Ködispace 4SG is suitable for the production of insulating glass for standard windows, but also for demanding structural glazing applications.
