Updated installation guides for windows and facades in English

There are many waterproofing, fastening and installation systems that are fit for purpose. However, the necessary know-how is also required for professional planning, selection and execution. The necessary knowledge for professional installation is described in detail in the "Guide to planning and executing the installation of windows and entrance doors for new buildings and renovations" and in the "Guide to the installation of curtain walling". English-language versions of these two guides are now available for internationally active window manufacturers, system providers, planners, fitters and tradesmen. These standard works are the technical foundation for all those who plan installations or have to qualify fitters and planners who do not have sufficiently good German language skills. Both works will continue to ba available at a reduced price until the end of 2022. Special editions with company logos can be produced on request.

Installation Guide for Windows and Front Doors

The "Installation Guide for Facades" describes the state of the art and the rules of technology as a standard work and was revised in the German version in 2020 or 2022. This was necessary because many technical and normative changes have occurred since the last editions. On more than 300 pages, the professional sealing, insulation and fastening as well as the structural and physical principles of installation are explained. The guides are therefore compulsory reading for all builders and planners who want to install building elements professionally.

In particular, changes to thermal insulation and energy saving in buildings, sound insulation, joint sealing tapes, structural sealing as well as new regulations for fixing windows with requirements for burglar resistance and fall protection have been taken into account. The effects of the changes are complex and have been incorporated in several chapters.

What does the guide have to say about fastening?

The innovations in the area of fastening will certainly be of particular interest. There is now a more practical definition of the load cases with two simple standard cases and only one special case as well as simple sample calculations for the professional dimensioning of the fastening. In addition, the instructions for the fastening of fall-preventing elements as well as an extension of the scope of burglar-resistant building elements to wall systems with highly insulating masonry units are important innovations.

This should considerably simplify the technical discussion of window manufacturers and installation experts with architects, building owners, the building supervisory authority and the structural engineer. The special features of the Austrian installation standard were also taken into account in the application of multifunctional sealing strips.

What does it offer to planners?

For the planner, the interface between structural waterproofing and structural connection for floor-to-ceiling elements has been substantially revised and adapted to the current standardisation. A comprehensive description of the 2-stage installation with preliminary frames as a variant with significant advantages has been added. Chapter 7 "Practical execution" has been supplemented with many examples for solving potential weak points, for example the "tradesman's hole" or accessibility threshold designs.

In chapter 8, new drawings have been added and all thermal calculations (isotherm, Psi values, fRsi) have been redone in accordance with the normative changes. This makes the installation guide an up-to-date practical aid for the planning and execution of professional window and exterior door installation.

In the course of revising the English version, the Polish installation guide for windows and exterior doors was also updated.

Is there anything for fabricators, planners and fitters?

The installation guide is supplemented by the installation planner of the ift Rosenheim, which is available online and enables fabricators, planners and fitters to carry out professional structural-physical planning of window installation with just a few clicks. It is also available in English and therefore enables international fabricators, planners and fitters to simplify the planning process and carry out professional planning of a window installation in terms of building physics. After selecting the wall structure/material, window material/profile, sealing/fixing system and the dimensions, a building physics calculation of the structural connection is carried out in real time and the force effect at the fixing points is determined. The installation guide is free to us after online registration at www.ift-montageplaner.de/ift.
