Schollglas:

Curved glass for this copper facade

The new Systematic extension with its sculptural tower was designed by the architects from the Olav de Linde design studio together with the Erik arkitekter architectural firm. In the 60-metre high tower, 7350 m2 of office space is spread over 15 floors.

The base of the tower is connected to the existing building on the lower three levels via a newly constructed low-rise building. The office tower rising above has rounded corners and large glass surfaces.

With its shimmering copper-coloured facade, it forms a strong contrast to the light-coloured base of the existing building.

Copper "at the top of the tower"

Inspired by the city's copper towers and in reference to the patinated copper cornice and the copper-coloured oriels of the three-storey atrium in the existing building, the architects decided on a warm and golden shimmering facade cladding.

This effect was achieved with rolled and bent sheet metal made of patinated copper and aluminium profiles anodised in the same colour. The vertical copper fins support the dynamics of the building and give the facade a stylish appearance.

The facades are subdivided with window formats and appear three-dimensional and with depth, so that they are perceived as a relief from all sides. Despite the large window areas of 1.5 m × 3.8 m, a frame profile width of only 72 mm was achieved, giving the building a light and elegant appearance.

Workplaces bathed in daylight

The sun shading insulating glass GeWe-therm sun SN70S from Schollglas chosen by the architects for the glazing is a high-performance product with high light transmission, combined with high safety properties and optimal thermal insulation, which is considerably more transparent than other coated insulating glass products.

Together with its high colour neutrality, GeWe-therm sun provides an effective daylight gain that is appreciated by architects and building owners.

The very large-format, curved insulating glass units with a radius of 3,400 mm could be finished in the same look thanks to the flexible coatings. The spandrel glass was also given a special treatment. These single-pane safety glasses have an enamel coating on the back in the colour RAL mahogany brown - matching the bronze-coloured profiles of the glazing system.

The insulating glass units were produced by Schollglas Technik GmbH Isernhagen, delivered and hoisted into place by crane. Some of them are equipped with interior, electrically operated blinds that are integrated into the building management system via a special control system.
