Seamless transitions between indoors and outdoors define this luxurious vacation villa in Villshärad, Sweden. At the heart of the architectural concept is an impressive 13-square-meter folding glass wall that dissolves the boundaries between living space and nature.
On Sweden's coveted west coast, Jörgen and Katarina have created an exclusive retreat that combines the elegance of the Hamptons with Scandinavian minimalism. Danish architect Lotte Elkiær from elkiær + ebbeskov arkitekter aps designed the single-story, U-shaped luxury residence with a warm cedar wood facade.

Particularly noteworthy is the central “orangery,” a light-filled conservatory that connects the two parts of the building and can be opened up to the outside area via an impressive folding glass wall.
A flexible space for all seasons
“In a vacation home, it is both functionally and architecturally important to remove spatial boundaries. This makes the house feel larger and encourages people to spend more time outdoors," says architect Elkiær, explaining her concept. Solarlux's Ecoline aluminum system was chosen – six elements, each 2.60 metres high and one metre wide. When opened, the elements fold into slim bundles and are parked to the side, creating an opening with complete accessibility.

The owners use this flexible space in every season. “In summer, we open the glass folding wall completely and let in the afternoon or evening sun. In winter, it stays closed, we light the fireplace, eat together by the fire and look out at the winter landscape,” enthuses owner Katarina.
Coloured to match the wood facade
The exclusive character of the villa is also reflected in its design: the aluminium profiles of the folding wall were chosen in a subtle light grey that harmonizes with the cedar wood facade when it takes on its natural grey patina.
One element of the folding wall is designed as a rotating wing and serves as a separate exit. When closed, the delicate profiles continue to offer unobstructed prospects of the surrounding coastal landscape while providing protection from the elements.
A country retreat from the big city
The exclusive villa is the result of a clear vision: A vacation home for every season that offers enough space for family and friends and blends harmoniously into the landscape – while at the same time providing a deliberate contrast to the owners' main residence in Stockholm.
With the generous glass folding wall as its architectural centrepiece, a retreat has been created that perfectly combines luxury and a connection to nature.
