Wood coating:

3D varnishing robot added to Remmers Competence Centre

With the precise 3D recognition for the shape detection of each individual element, there are now completely new possibilities for the development and testing of new coating solutions at Remmers as well as for the cooperation with partners from industry and trade.

What the robot recognises

The heart of the painting robot, which has been further developed by Range + Heine together with the robot manufacturer CMA, is the special software for 3D shape recognition. When entering the painting booth, the component to be coated is completely captured as a 3D element by a total of four laser measurement scanners on both sides. In this way, both slant and profile thickness as well as the exact depth in the different workpiece areas can be determined and evaluated. In addition, complex geometries such as frame doublings or weatherstrips are automatically detected.

Claudia Max-Heine, Managing Director of Range + Heine, explains: "The 3D shape recognition ensures that the robot always paints parallel to the workpiece surface. This almost completely avoids differences in layer thickness as a result of slanted suspensions." In addition, the optimised painting motion sequence means that manual readjustment is hardly ever necessary - and if it is, it can be done very conveniently by means of an easy-to-operate panel control. Painting is possible with the new CMA robot up to a workpiece length of 2,500 millimetres (max. height 1,500 millimetres).

Perfect for live demonstrations and coating tests

Among other things, Remmers uses the innovative painting robot to demonstrate the application variety of different, high-quality coating systems live and up close. In addition, the new painting robot offers Remmers partners the possibility of individual support in tests for the selection of the optimum surface coating or also the optimisation of their production processes - without having to purchase the equipment themselves.

Together with Range + Heine, the surface expert offers a complete service and consulting package here - individually tailored to the needs of the respective company. "Especially for companies that want to coat workpieces with a variety of geometries on a daily basis, the new robot is an ideal solution. In combination with an individually tailored coating system from us, lasting high quality and economical processes are guaranteed," explains Elmar Kaiser, Division Manager Remmers Technical Service (RTS) Wood Paints and Varnishes.

State-of-the-art machine technology for every coating requirement

The new CMA varnishing robot again expands the range of machines and systems available in the Wood Surface Competence Centre. Here, customers and partners can also use, among other things, various sanding and varnishing machines, a flooding system, spray tunnels for impregnating individual wood window parts and a fully controllable drying room for testing new production processes, for training courses and for live demonstrations.
