Bovone:

An automated machine for edge processing

Over the past two years, Bovone's research and development department has further developed its edge grinding machines to meet the increased demands of the glass industry for high productivity rates while maintaining the quality of the end product. The key to this is highly automated equipment, such as the new fully automatic ELB 11/45 FA grinding machine. But what exactly does the new grinding system do?

Automatic readjustment of the grinding wheels

The machine spindles are controlled by an automatic system that compensates for the difference in thickness of the glass pane through powerful software equipped with an intuitive and user-friendly HMI.

The automatic adjustment of the grinding wheel can be done in three different modes: depending on the running metres of the glass to be processed, the absorption level of the spindles or on a combination of these two parameters.

The LB 11/45 FA edge processing system from Bovone does not require manual adjustment of the grinding wheel height, as the machines independently compensate for grinding wheel wear.

Wheel change made easy with Bovone

In order to use the edge processing tools optimally and to achieve a high level of quality in the finishing process, it is necessary to change the grinding wheels in good time. On the LB 11/45 FA, acoustic and optical signals warn the operator that the glass pane needs to be changed as soon as the grinding wheels reach the end of their service life. This also makes it possible to minimise the number of necessary interruptions.

The new system also releases the wear check from the operator's subjective judgement and indicates the time(s) when the tool reaches the end of its life and needs to be replaced. Changing the machine's discs is simple and quick. The operator starts the disc change from the screen: The spindle lowers automatically so that he can conveniently replace the glass pane.

[How can a robot be of use in glass processing?]

Once the process is complete, the machine automatically positions the grinding wheel in the right place so that the operator can resume production in no time at all, which is also much faster than changing the wheel by hand.

The associated software is already equipped with presets that can be called up easily and intuitively by the operator to keep the production parameters constant.

What does the LB 11/45 FA grinding system offer in terms of software, pre-programming and robot use?

Bovone has also equipped the supplied software with presets that can be called up easily and intuitively by the operator to quickly start the production of different batches while keeping the production parameters constant.

This allows high and consistent quality of the processed glass, regardless of the operator's skills and know-how.

The entire FA series of ELB edging machines can be integrated with the fully automated Bovone Robotic Systems, which are specifically designed for processing large formats and batches.
