Veka:

Sustainable use of materials through reinforcement concept

On the one hand, the concept enables the economical and technically sensible use of sash reinforcements and, on the other hand, the construction of large elements.

With the new reinforcement concept, it is important to take into account the respective product constellations, the general conditions at the installation site and the interactions to be expected in order to determine the optimal design and to ensure the unrestricted functionality of the elements during their entire service life.

At its core, it is about sustainable material use, because it is based on the principle of "as much steel as necessary, as little as possible".

In a scientific study, the system house evaluated the thermal loads on its own profile systems and their effects. The aim was also to be able to simulate the loads in a reproducible way.

In Europe, there are climatic zones where the colouring or TSR value of a surface is unproblematic (green), while the same TSR value in other regions might lead to sometimes considerable problems (orange/red).

In Europe, there are climatic zones where the colouring or TSR value of a surface is unproblematic (green), while the same TSR value in other regions might lead to sometimes considerable problems (orange/red).

An important result of the studies carried out is the decision to classify surfaces in future according to their reflection and absorption behaviour. The basis for this is the so-called TSR value (Total Solar Reflectance). This indicates how much solar radiation is reflected by a surface. The smaller the value, the warmer the profiles. "We know when it gets how warm where and can now determine this using Veka's internal surface tool. This allows us to calculate the thermal load for different foils. This means we are well equipped for the future," explains Hermann Schmitz, Head of Veka Technology and Innovation.

With the differentiated consideration of the various surfaces, which corresponds to the reference of the draft EN 12608-2, (test standard for PVC-U profiles with laminated foils), Veka no longer differentiates between reinforcements for white and coloured profiles. The surfaces are now classified into different colour groups (A, B, C). In these surface groups - depending on the design and static properties of the reinforcement - different sash sizes can be realised.

Optimised reinforcements possible

As a further important point, the system provider has optimised the reinforcements in such a way that they lie directly against the profile walls and thus optimally transfer their static effect. This is accompanied by the realisation of new maximum sizes. As part of this development, new reinforcement geometries have been developed for the 70, 80 and 100 sashes for dry glazing and glass bonding, which open up significantly more possibilities and completely new scope. The reinforcements are divided into up to three categories for sash profiles and up to four for faceplate profiles. Based on the classification into these categories as well as the colour groups of the surfaces and the desired sizes, the reinforcements can be selected specifically for a building project. The modular system of reinforcement geometries makes it possible to choose between a high degree of individualisation and a system standard.

Due to the large number of possible combinations, the diagrams are no longer included in the system documentation, but in a separate partial document of the new Veka planning manual, which is stored digitally.

For optimal planning support, the new reinforcement concept is also stored in the Veka planning tool WinDoPlan.

Checking in WinDoPlan, Klaes and 3E

The new reinforcement concept is already stored in the WinDoPlan online planning tool. The tool thus offers a way of recording the complex interdependencies, checking the possible configurations and selecting the optimum combination.

In the window construction software programs from Klaes and 3E, the programming of the additionally required functions for the new reinforcement concept is already underway, and Digital Building Solutions GmbH is currently implementing the master data.

New concept is not automatically activated

When upgrading the master data, however, the existing reinforcement logic is also retained. The new reinforcement concept is additionally provided, but not automatically activated. If you have any questions about the master data, please contact DBS or, as usual, Veka's Technical Support. Further information on the new reinforcement concept as well as a programme training are available in the login area on the system provider's homepage.
