How sliding doors elevate the experience on these houseboats

The new, environmentally friendly Joylife boats offer high-quality furnishings and space for up to six people on a total of 54 m², as well as leisure fun close to nature and overnight accommodation in dreamlike surroundings. Among other things, the houseboats have a sleeping suite with panoramic views, an 18 m² sun terrace on the upper deck, a modern kitchen-cum-living room including a washer-dryer, an on-board sewage treatment plant, stand-up paddleboards and their own e-scooters for exploring the surroundings on land.

When you think of a cabin - the living, sleeping or recreation areas of a ship - you usually have narrow, dark rooms with small porthole windows in mind, which only allow a minimal glimmer of light to enter the interior of the ship. The modern Joylife Boats are completely different: they are designed like tiny houses on the water with the largest possible glass surfaces to provide the rooms with plenty of daylight. This also allows tenants to see their surroundings at all times, even when it is stormy or raining outside.

The floor-to-ceiling heroal aluminium windows, which are arranged on both sides of the boat, extend across the entire dining area and provide a view of the water and the shoreline landscape from every sitting position. The narrow frame profiles of the heroal W 72 window system ensure maximum transparency.

The sleeping suite is located at the stern of the ship on the upper level and can be reached via a solid wooden staircase. The highlight of the sleeping area is the heroal windows, which are arranged across the entire wall surface on all three sides and provide a unique all-round view.

While the glass on the sides is fixed in the frame profiles, the centre window, also from the heroal W 72 window system, is designed as a bottom-hung window so that it can be opened slightly inwards for ventilation from above without the sash hitting or taking up too much space. For more privacy, there are curtains that can be closed.

SBS Andernach GmbH specialises in sophisticated boat building and is responsible for the development, manufacture and maintenance of Joylife Boats. "As we attached great importance to generous glass surfaces and high-quality materials, only aluminium windows were considered for our Joylife electric houseboats, as they are significantly more stable than plastic. In heroal, we have found a partner who offers us optimal solutions that are precisely tailored to our special application," explains Alex Friesen, Managing Director of SBS Andernach GmbH.

A sliding door next to the steering wheel provides access to the covered outdoor terrace of the houseboat. On the one hand, the sliding element must not obstruct the captain's view while travelling and, on the other hand, the houseboat must be lockable when the tenants are on shore leave. Thanks to its sophisticated design, the delicate heroal S 42 sliding door system fulfils these requirements and is also characterised by its sustainability and cost-effectiveness.

As the houseboats can only be rented from April to November, the heroal S 42 sliding door system is ideal as it is ideal for areas that do not require any special thermal insulation and where no major temperature differences between the inside and outside areas are to be expected.

heroal sliding systems made from recycled aluminium are extremely durable, sustainable throughout the entire product life cycle and are also Cradle to Cradle Certified (silver). This internationally recognised certification identifies the use of environmentally safe, wholesome and recyclable materials.

"The sliding door from heroal particularly impressed us, as it is very suitable for the daily use of our houseboats," says Alex Friesen. "The delicate profiles leave the view unobstructed, the sliding door blends in perfectly with the overall view and even with intensive use, it always opens and closes smoothly and runs quietly on track."

There is a second sliding door at the rear. This allows tenants to conveniently choose which route to take.

Highly weather-resistant heroal coating

The upper sleeping area is a particular highlight of the houseboat: Here you can start the day with an all-round view, looking out over the water. The window can simply be tilted inwards for ventilation.

Houseboats are exposed to particular weather conditions on the water - they can withstand strong sunlight, rain and storms in equal measure. This is why high-quality materials are just as important as a durable coating for the components.

The highly weather-resistant heroal hwr powder coating gives the aluminium components of windows and sliding doors long-lasting colour stability, gloss retention and weather resistance. Even with high UV exposure, the coating remains colourfast for decades.

For the colour coating, SBS Andernach GmbH was able to choose from over 500 RAL, DB and VEKA colours, the exclusive Les Couleurs Le Corbusier and the innovative surface finish heroal SD. "Despite the large selection of colours, we quickly found the shade that fits perfectly into the overall concept.

The aluminium solutions from heroal are perfectly matched to the needs of the houseboat captains in terms of colour, size and function. We are very satisfied and would equip other Joylife electric houseboats with heroal systems at any time," says Alex Friesen, summarising the collaboration with heroal.
