TU Delft's Bucky Lab: A dynamic solar shading unit

In our ongoing series, we present projects and prototypes from the Bucky Lab, where engineering and construction students offer a different take on facade construction through their new and fresh approach. For more on the Bucky Lab, please click here. This week, we present the sun shading project Saku:

Saku is a solar shading facade with not only the ability to mediate interior temperatures, but an dynamic aesthetic that reflects the technology and care serviced within the AMC Hospital in Amsterdam. By situating this facade on the entry atriums of the building, patients are reassured that the treatment and care they will receive will also be of the highest quality.

Saku works in reverse principle as a standard umbrella, with the capability to open and close the entrance atrium to various levels of light, views and temperature.
