This agreement follows a cooperation agreement signed by Velux and Novelis in 2022. With the new agreement, both companies reaffirm their joint goal of achieving 3kg CO2e (CO2 equivalents) per kilogram or less for flat-rolled aluminium by 2030.
"The agreement underscores our strong commitment to achieving this ambitious goal in just five years," said Klaus Lorentzen, Senior Vice President Products & Innovation of the Velux Group. "With a recycling rate of over 70 per cent, Novelis aluminium is a key component of our decarbonization strategy."
Recycled aluminium key to reduced carbon emissions
Aluminium recycling reduces energy consumption and CO2 emissions by approximately 95 per cent compared to primary aluminium production. This makes it a key driver for low-carbon solutions in the construction sector. The aluminium alloy supplied by Novelis is specially tailored to the requirements of roof window production.

Velux
"The partnership with Velux is a catalyst for change,” says Michael Hahne, Vice President Commercial, Novelis Europe. "Together, we have made great strides in developing alloys that meet high performance requirements while promoting the circular economy." Partnerships like these highlight Novelis’ innovations.
Working together for low-carbon building materials
Since 2022, both companies have been working to reduce the carbon footprint of the aluminium used in Velux products. More than half of the aluminium supplied by Novelis to Velux has already been replaced by highly recycled aluminium alloys, and this joint effort is set to continue in the coming years.
Aluminium is one of several important materials that the Velux Group is reviewing together with its suppliers in order to further reduce the carbon footprint of its products. Over 98 per cent of Velux's carbon footprint is generated in the supply chain (Scope 3), which is why effective collaboration with strategic partners is crucial.
