Forster Profile Systems

An oval made of wood, steel and glass

According to the architect in charge of the project, Erik Roerdink, the use of steel means that no auxiliary structures are required, which makes the huge steel facades appear even more transparent. This creates a beautiful connection between inside and outside and helps to make the SuperHub a social meeting place. The canopy, which extends more than five metres, provides covered open spaces and integrates the building into the surrounding park landscape.

The forster thermfix vario system in 60 x 250 x 5 mm format with a span of around 8.8 metres and heat-insulating triple glazing was used for the curtain wall. To do justice to the impressive shape and design of the SuperHub, large, curved windows were required to match the curved facade, says Erik Roedink, explaining the decision. "Forster has experience with projects of this size and therefore has the right profiles for such large spans. They supplied beautiful and precise systems that were relatively easy and quick to install and enabled us to meet the SuperHub's completion deadline," says the architect.

The doors are also from Forster

The robust forster unico system was used for the double doors, which are characterised by a long service life, high thermal insulation values and contactless opening. This makes these doors ideal for supermarkets and other buildings with a high frequency of use.

Based on the specifications for the SuperHub, vandaglas recommended and supplied TriplePerform XTR70/33 triple glazing for the straight sections and IsoPerform XTR70/33 double glazing for the curved facade elements. Both glass types have an identical highly selective solar control coating that is completely transparent or neutral to the eye.

Ecological and forward-looking

As the building was designed to be so flexible that it can be converted in the future, it can grow with the urban neighbourhood and always meet new needs while conserving resources. The sustainable construction method using wood and steel also ensures a positive carbon footprint.

The roof offers space for a photovoltaic system and ecologically valuable greenery, while the built-in ventilation system and heat and cold storage in the floor ensure a good indoor climate.

The profile systems used for the windows and fixed glazing fit in very well with this concept of durability and sustainability: The forster thermfix vario system comes without plastic insulators, so is made of 100 per cent recyclable steel. This makes the solution particularly sustainable.
