Design with flexibility

Sunflex Aluminium Systems: Modular glazing solutions for complex building envelopes

Loggia glazing makes previously under-used outdoor areas – such as loggias, balconies, or terraces – usable all year round without completely removing their open character.

"Loggias are covered, side-enclosed outdoor spaces – often found on public buildings or hotels. However, they are also becoming increasingly common in private homes, where they serve as a protected extension of the interior," explains Dennis Schneider, Managing Director of Sunflex.

Added space with variable systems

Loggia glazing opens up new possibilities, especially in urban areas where living space is at a premium. Sunflex systems, whether sliding or pivoting, can be opened or closed completely as desired. This creates a flexible intermediate area that combines the advantages of indoor and outdoor space. “Our systems offer the possibility of dynamically adapting rooms to the respective situation – while maintaining a high level of transparency and comfort,” says Schneider. The glazing also contributes to energy efficiency: as a thermal buffer zone, it improves heat insulation in winter and regulates the temperature in summer.

Even in more complex structural conditions—such as corner situations, irregular floor plans, or limited freedom of movement—the system offers suitable solutions thanks to its modular design.

Design integration and everyday suitability

Visually, the frameless systems also blend discreetly into different types of buildings, both new and renovated. The delicate aluminum profiles preserve the character of the facade. “The systems can be individually adapted to structural specifications and usage requirements, which is particularly relevant for projects with existing loggias or retrofitting needs,” explains Schneider. In everyday life, a glazed loggia expands the living space in many ways – whether as a sheltered retreat, a work area, or a light-filled dining area.

In densely built-up residential areas, it also improves sound insulation without losing the connection to the outside. “We are seeing growing interest in multifunctional outdoor areas that can be used flexibly all year round. Loggia glazing offers a practical and discreet solution for this – and can also increase property values by creating additional usable space,” concludes Schneider.
